Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Monday, Aug. 5
Dr. Jennifer M. Sasser, associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology, will give the UMMC Department of Cell and Molecular Biology presentation, "Targeting the NO-cGMP Pathway for the Treatment of Preeclampsia," at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, in classroom 3A.

Wednesday, Aug. 7
Dr. Wade Christopher, administrative chief resident, will give the Department of Surgery Grand Rounds presentation, "Neoadjuvant Therapy for Resectable Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma: The Time is Now," from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, in room CW106 of the Classroom Wing.

Physiology prof to apply biotechnology for kidney disease
Dr. Alejandro R. Chade, professor of physiology and biophysics, will give the UMMC Department of Physiology and Biophysics presentation, "Applied Biotechnology for Chronic Kidney Disease: Therapeutic Angiogenesis and Anti-inflammatory Strategies," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, in room CW106 of the Classroom Wing.

Thursday, Aug. 8
Dr. Justin B. Moore, associate professor of family and community medicine in the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention and the Department of Implementation Science at the Wake Forest School of Medicine, will give the Grand Rounds presentation, “Innovative Approaches to Improve the Effectiveness of Clinical Weight Programs for Adolescents with Obesity,” at noon on Thursday, Aug. 8, in room A035 in the School of Nursing building.
The presentation is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research, the Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research and the Cardiorenal and Metabolic Diseases Research Center.

Christy Barrick, nurse practitioner in the Adult Intensive Care Unit at UMMC, will give the Office of Nursing Quality, Development and Professional Practice's "Clinical Leaders Using Best-Practices (CLUB)" presentation, "Implementation of a Fasting Protocol for Patients Prior to General Anesthesia," from 11 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Aug. 13, in classroom 3A.

Tuesday, Sept. 10
Dr. Hey-Kyoung Lee, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University, will give the UMMC Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences Seminar Series presentation, "Cross-Modal Recovery of Cortical Plasticity in Adults," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in classroom 3A (North Wing N318).

Tuesday, Oct. 15
Dr. LouAnn Woodward, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs, is scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting set for noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Woodward will provide an update for the Medical Center and faculty with 20 years of service will be recognized. Flu shots will be available before and after the meeting from Student and Employee Health. Lunch will be available on a first-come basis.
